In this Featured Crafter, we hear from Birute from Amber Studios. Birute grew up in Lithuania and has since moved to New Jersey. She derives inspiration for her pieces from nature, world travel, ancient ethnic styling and European couture.
I’ve been creating things as far back as I can remember…
I grew up in Lithuania, moved to USA, studied, married, changed jobs, went to school again, but always I’ve been creating things…
I’m working in fashion industry and have an experience in costume design.
“If you’re in fashion industry you have to know what people wanted before they knew that they want it.â€
To open a store on Etsy was the answer to the changing times: I’m afraid of scary thoughts about future collections that may include designers gas mask. My concerns are how to reduce environmental footprint and I’m working very hard to make a difference. I recycle/reuse/reclaimed fabrics, I started to use very old technique of SOLAR BLEACHING. I used that for Eco- Couture wedding dress.

Another idea that I use for my designs is called : FORGET – ME – NOT GARMENT, which is made from reused clothing provided by a costumer. It reminds about good times, or loss of a loved one, or just boyfriend’s sweater forgotten in your home … which is made in cute, fun skirt.
