Consumer Safety
Once you start selling products to consumers, you are responsible for how the products perform. Utmost care should be given to make sure that your products are safe for their intended users.
Tags should be attached to any products that need warnings, and the warnings should be written clearly.
Consumers want to know that the product they are considering is safe for their families. You can provide this reassurance by checking all consumer safety regulations for the products that you sell.
U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission
This government agency provides regulations and guidelines for producing a number of products. These regulations are provided to offer protection to all consumers. Although not all products have mandated guidelines, there are Voluntary Guidelines set for a growing number of products.
Product Safety Standards or Guidance
This lookup table lists those product types for which the Consumer Product Safety Commission has issued a government mandatory standard, ban or other regulation, or guidance.
Voluntary Standards
U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) staff promotes safety by providing technical support for voluntary standards activities for a wide range of consumer products.
There are many private organizations that offer endorsements on tested products. Having an endorsement from one of these agencies will help increase sales by earning the trust of the consumer.
Candle-Safety.org
An endorsement is earned for the use of safe candle making products. Candle companies and candle supply companies are asked about the specific materials they use. When none of the materials are found to be a fire hazard, a personalized banner is provided to the business owner that boasts of the safety of the products being sold.
