Hi Lisa, how did you get started with your Etsy shop?
Hi Dawn, thanks so much for the interest in my shop! My mohair cat toys came about because I make heirloom mohair teddy bears, and our cats kept running off with bits of my mohair. They were crazy for it! So in order to use up some of the scrap pieces (okay A LOT of scrap pieces), I decided to add some catnip and make mice for our cats to play with. Our older Siamese plays with them and talks to them. Acts like a kitten again. It is so much fun to hear customers tell stories of how their cats have such a wonderful time playing with these mice.
Can you describe your process and materials used?
I get to use the beautiful, colorful pieces of high-quality Schulte and Helmbold mohair that I have left over from my bears. I order my mohair from a delightful lady in the Netherlands and she also has an Etsy shop. Knoevelkes is the name of her store and she has the best inventory to be found!
How do you personally find time to dedicate to your craft?
I have a full-time job in medical billing and in the evenings and on the weekends I make my bears and my mice. I average one bear a week and I try to update my mice at least twice a week on Sunday in my Etsy shop.
Is there anything else you’d like to share?
I ordered some hedgehog mohair so look for catnip hedgehogs after the first of the year! I think cats will really love these! Also, I have done a couple of custom order mice for customers in colors of their request and I always love to do this so don’t hesitate to ask for a specific color combo. You won’t believe how much fun your cat can have with a mohair mouse!
Happy Holidays to all!
